The house

Fully restored house which sleeps up to 10, 4 double bedrooms, 2 bathrooms (one en-suite) plus separate WCs, fully equipped kitchen incl. dishwasher, washing machine and tumble drier. Cot and high chair available. Off-street parking.

The back of the house faces due south towards the Pyrenees. There is a patio and sizeable garden, which is surrounded by vineyards.

The view from the garden

The house is situated in a small hill-top village, a 20 min journey by car from Carcassonne, its airport (Ryanair) and the motorway. Main line rail connections at Carcassonne. Other picturesque towns in the vicinity are Limoux and Mirepoix. Toulouse (scheduled flights) is 45 mins by car. The Mediterranean coast and the ski resorts of the Pyrenees are also 45 mins drive away. Day trips can be made into Spain and Andorra.

The setting

The village is in Cathar country, with its castles and (for followers of The Da Vinci Code) connections with the Holy Grail. It is also in the Languedoc wine region of the Cotes de Malepere. The countryside is lovely for walking/cycling with signposted trails. There are views to the north of the village towards the Black Mountains. The Canal du Midi winds along the bottom of the valley on this side.
